Hello April - Goodbye March!

Looking Back Series

It’s already April 10th, but we still want to take a moment to look back at last month! We are actually really starting to love our “looking back” series as it really allows us to stand still & appreciate all the work we’ve done.

March was quite a crazy month for us, with a lot of back-to-back projects and requests. We started the month with a small shoot for our monthly client, Caleo, and Juan booking a last minute trip to surprise his sister for her birthday in Toronto! This meant that I (Ashley) had a week of shoots on my own! But, right before Juan left, we managed to fit in 3 content shoots for the beach clubs of Kontiki: Mood Beach, Cabana Beach, and Wet & Wild - including reels. We also shot the new menu for BKLYN the night before he had to fly. So, Juan left with plenty of work to edit while in Toronto! (You can read more about his trip here).

As we prefer to do big content shoots together, we had planned to do those when Juan got back and I focused on shooting smaller shoots such as headshots for a lawyer firm, a birthday shoot, event photography for a retreat, a shoot for my mom’s company’s website (photos are already up!), and general meetings. I also had one of my friends over from The Netherlands, so I enjoyed showing her around the island!

Since we had pushed back a few big shoots, we knew it was go time the moment Juan got back to the island on a Sunday. We took the Monday slow, to look at the week calmly, and started with meetings. Then from Tuesday - Saturday it was photoshoots every day. We started with the shoot for Zanzibar on Tuesday morning. Casually [crashed the drone] in the afternoon for another project, and finished the day with a shoot at Tinto, using our back up drone. Wednesday we had to capture a Masterclass and had an engagement photoshoot and Thursday morning got cancelled due to bad weather. Luckily, it did clear up in time for a real estate shoot with Sotheby’s in the afternoon. Friday and Saturday we captured the opening of Bagira’s gallery in Kura Hulanda, which was a great time. Sunday was our rest day.

The moment we crashed the drone, we immediately messaged the only person who came to mind: Peterson Octavius. Without hesitation, he responded, diagnosed the drone, and came up with a way to fix it. Within 3 days, we had our drone back and fixed. A true life saver.

The next week would be the same as the one before. We started Monday & Tuesday with the shoot for Zest Beach Cafe and the restaurant, which was planned from 9:00 - 11:00 and then again from 17:00 - 20:00. In between, we introduced our new intern to our company, the processes, and tasks she will take on for us! Wednesday we finally created some time to actually be at the office again & in the afternoon we shot for Zanzibar. Thursday was the day we rescheduled the shoot from the week before at Koko’s and we finished the day with a meeting with one of our monthly clients. Good Friday we decided to take off as well, along with everyone else - finishing March the right way!

The photos from these shoots are still being selected by the client and processed, so stay tuned for the content!

That weekend, Juan’s cousin was on the island, so we spent the weekend exploring the island with them and eating at our favorite places!

Wondering when we edited all of the work we shot? In the evenings after the long shoot days & early mornings before the next shoots... We started April with the intention to leave some days open, but so far, its been pretty similar to the last two weeks of March - which is why we haven’t been super active on the socials, but we’re trying our best to stay updated! It’s been a crazy few weeks, but it’s been a great rollercoaster ride. Our creative energies got tested a bit with the amount of work, but we’re excited to keep going!

As always, if you made it until here (or just skipped through), thank you so much for being here. We appreciate you!

Wishing you all the best,

Juan & Ashley
